Have you seen the new reality show on TV called Undercover Boss? I saw one episode of this program and was inspired to get back to my roots. I have never been one to sit around and run a company from a desk, I have always been hands on until the last 5 years and so I felt it was time to take action. I have been wanting to clean pools again for some time, don’t ask me why it’s just something I really enjoyed in my youth. With workloads slowing up and my unwillingness to build pools at cost I decided to work more on service than I have in some years. I am always engaged in my company and all that goes on but now I am working a route, while it is temporary it sure has opened up my eyes to what the pool cleaner techs go through on a day to day basis. I have met some of my customers that I have not previously met, reconnected with those I have not seen for many years and been treated as though I am just one of the guys without ever letting on who I am. It’s been fun and exciting, this is a big change from the consulting and managing I have been doing. This has led me to realize that some changes need to be made. The act of cleaning a swimming pool is not all that hard but the act of keeping a pool working like a well oiled machine is a tough task on its own let alone an entire pool route. This has been a real experience spurred on by some reality show that will lead to improvements and has brought me back to my roots. You never know when I will show up in your backyard this year…

Each and every year we stabilize your swimming pool with a product called Cyaniric Acid and don’t charge for this. This chemical helps to protect the chlorine from the UV and other reasons that cause rapid chlorine elimination. We add this yearly at the tune of about $100.00 per pool per year! Unfortunately with the rising costs we must charge for this product this year to be added to the pools. Our charge to you will only offset our expense as we will not charge the full amount. SPP will be adding in May’s billing a $40.00 charge to stabilize your pool with CYA. We sure hope you understand as our rising costs here have gone through the roof and have left us treading water this past winter wondering how to keep up with the rising costs of cleaning pools. Certainly my working a route will help to control the expense but not eliminate it and thus instead of raising prices at this time we will add this surcharge to assist us in keeping it under control.

It’s that time of year again and the sun has finally come back out! This means for those of you that have a solar system it is time to restart them and get ready for the warm weather ahead. Michelle is calling for approvals but if for some reason she has not called you and you would like us to start the system up give her a call at the office and she will arrange to have the system started.
