Virginia Graeme Baker Act

The “Virginia Graeme Baker Act” was designed to prevent injuries due to entrapment and
or evisceration caused by main drains in swimming pools.  The law at this time is geared
toward the public pool but does apply to all pools and spas.

There is a large potential hazard in pools/spas that have only a single drain cover per pump.
These silent potential killers in the pool/spa are for suction/recirculation, in most
pools they are not active until there is a low water condition in others they are active all
the time in the pool/spa (single covers per pump are mostly older pools and spas).
If you have a single drain cover in the deep end of  the pool/spa it is not up to
the new law and codes and could cause death or serious injury
if someone was to block the cover with their body.

If your pool or spa has these drain covers they should be assessed to see
what can be done to get your pool in compliance with the new law and codes.
In all cases if you have a single main drain cover or dual main drain cover all
pools and spas should be outfitted with the new VGB approved covers,
if you have only one drain cover then you should not use the pool until a new
un-blockable cover and an SVRS system is installed on your pool or spa.

There is a new pump on the market that can help in saving a life in the pool/spa
and saving money on your electrical bill each and every month.  This is a Suction
Vacuum Release System pump that will sense high vacuum in a pool, this caused
by someone sucked to the main drain cover, and shut off releasing the
blockage/ trapped person at the bottom of the pool.  The pump will also reduce the
noise the pump makes during usage.  Pentair has an entire family of pool pumps that
are saving lives and money. These pumps also help to bring your pool up to the new
VGB law requirements along with a new main drain cover you are adding a safety
value to your swimming pool or spa.

If you are looking at this part of our web page it is because you either accidentally
happened upon it, or you have read the newsletter and wanted to see
the law for yourself (which I have also included into this segment of our web page)
either way it is taking a responsible path to getting your pool/spa as safe as it can be.
We at SPP do our best to keep you safe in your swimming pool or spa and
this new law should be taken seriously even for residential swimming pools or spas.

Please read this new law and if you have any questions or want your pool assessed
please email me Greg Yannazzo President of Swimming Pool Perfections to set
up a date and time to review your pool. poolperfections@earthlink.net
